Lake Cowichan Area B&Bs, Cabins and Lodges

Welcome to the Lake Cowichan area

The Cowichan area is known locally as “The Warm Land” which is from the First Nations Coast Salish name of Quw’utsun’ or Cowichan, meaning “land warmed by the sun.” This is an apt name as Cowichan boasts the warmest mean year-round temperatures of all of Canada.

The Cowichan area includes Cowichan and Mesachie Lakes, the towns of Youbou, Honeymoon Bay, and Lake Cowichan, and includes rivers forest and mountains with hiking trails. Nature’s paradise at your fingertips.

Plan your vacation in the heart of The Warm Land – a playground of sparkling waters and mountain vistas await you on the shores of Cowichan Lake and River.

In nature’s paradise you will have so much to explore!

So Many Activities:

Swim from beaches, tube down the river, kayak, canoe or plain relax on a boat cruise up the 33 Km (20 mile) long lake. More daring members can choose sea-doos, wake boards, water skis, tubing behind boats. Fishing is popular in our lake and heritage river. You can hike or bike on many trails.

Bring your fun side!

Within 30 minutes is Duncan, city of totems, with the Quwutsun Cultural Centre, the Forest Discovery Centre, the North West Raptor Centre. A bit to the north is Chemainus, known for its live theatre and historic murals. To the south east stroll through Cowichan Bay, our slow food centre, or visit the Kinsol Trestle. Also explore any of our numerous wineries, or farms, including lavender, tea and water buffalo farms. Indeed a foodie paradise.

In the Lake Cowichan Area, the choices are endless!

We are within 1.5 hours to Victoria and 1 hour to Nanaimo, both wonderful cities with so much to offer. And you can approach Victoria via the “Pacific Marine Circle Route” through Port Renfrew and Sooke. To our west on forest roads are Carmanah Walbran Park (home of some of the worlds largest spruce trees), Nitinat Lake (famous for windsurfing), and Bamfield, a gem on the entrance to the Port Alberni inlet.
